What are Asbestos? Application of Asbestos?

Asbestos is a mineral which includes six kinds of silicates that share the same fibrous nature. Its fibres are soft and flexible yet resistant to heat, electricity and chemical corrosion. It has been applied widely in commerce, public utilities and industrial facilities, thus asbestos is nearly anywhere in daily life which listed clearly as following:

Health Threats of Asbestos

When asbestos is smashed into fine fibres, it may cause serious health effects. Asbestos fibres are easily inhaled and carried into the lower regions of the lung where they can cause fibrotic lung disease (asbestosis) and changes in the lining of the chest cavity (pleura).  These diseases can lead to reduced respiratory function and death.  Long-term inhalation of asbestos fibres also increases the risk of lung cancer and mesothelioma.

Legislative Protection Against Asbestos for Workplace Safety

European agency for health and safety at work issued Directive 2009/148/EC regarding exposure to asbestos at work in year 2009. It erects the protection of workers from asbestos exposure risks at workplace, which stated acceptable density of asbestos fibres. The regulation mentioned employer should provides employees with proper PPE, putting up warning signs, preventing spread of asbestos dust, also gives appropriate training for workers.

PPE Requirement of Asbestos Application

The UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE) issued a recommendation claims of PPE while handling asbestos, which includes disposable protective clothing, disposable gloves, footwear, and respiratory protective equipment. ULTITEC 1000L / ULTITEC 1000L-NA / ULTITEC 2000 passes CE Type 5 (EN ISO 13982) inward leakage test and are proven to protect against harmful particulates including asbestos. ULTITEC aims to protect frontline operators with CE certified products to ensure they can “Act without fear!”.
